Iran’s UN envoy: Israel, not Iran, initiated war with U.S. green light

New York, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations has stressed that the Israeli regime, not Iran, was the initiator of the war after getting the green light from the United States.
Addressing the U.N. Security Council meeting on West Asia focusing on the Syrian issue, Amir-Sa’eed Iravani warned against the continuation of the Israeli aggression against Iran, saying Tehran would not hesitate to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and its people.
He described the Israeli aggression as a clear violation of the United Nations Charter and the fundamental principles of international law.
These terrorist attacks have targeted civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency and can have catastrophic consequences if they continue, he stated.
Iran has used its inherent right to legitimate defense under Article 5 of the United Nations Charter, he said, adding that Iran’s response was completely defensive, limited, and proportional, and merely targeted the military and economic positions.
He rejected Israel’s claim to defense, and said if this narrative becomes a common practice, it will undermine one of the fundamental principles of the U.N. charter, the prohibition of the threat or use of force in international relations.
“The bitter experience of Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Yemen has once again shown that the U.N. Security Council has failed to carry out its most basic duties and failed to contain the invaders,” Iravani said, criticizing the double standard policies of some Western countries, including the United States, Britain and France.
